The Refuge City Church

we're glad you found us

Attending a new church for the first time can be intimidating, all sorts of concerns may be running through your mind; “Will it be weird? Will I fit in? Will it be the same old same old?”

Allow us to put your fears to rest; we guarantee you won't have had an experience like The Refuge anywhere else. We welcome anyone and everyone, and well, weird depends on your definition. Feel free to stop in for a coffee and stay as little or as long as you like. We think you will be pleasantly surprised.

We get asked a lot, “Why start yet another church?” There are a lot of churches around with lots of different variations for your preferred delivery of organized religion. Most of us grew up with at least some ‘religion’ in our lives or a little ‘anti-religion.’ Whatever your experience, most people have formed some kind of opinion on religion and faith.

Our primary motivation for starting a church was the discovery that we really didn’t like religion but we really did like Jesus. We are comprised of a group of people who had mostly given up on the Church. We wanted to create a safe place where we could question the things about our faith that just don't make sense without causing a ruckus. We wanted to create a place where we could tackle the tough questions and apply those answers to the struggles of everyday life. We wanted to create a place that built people up instead of tearing them down. A place of encouragement rather than condemnation, full of joy and expectation.

The Refuge {RevolutionChurch} was first established in 2010. We have spent the past 8 years developing a message and heart of grace to take into our city. Essentially our message is this; God is not mad at the world, He loves it and He sent His son to display His heart to us. The cross is not a place where God's wrath was satisfied but rather  a demonstration of the abundant love and forgiveness for humankind. Jesus took on the curse of sin and death, and fulfilled the requirements of the law, thereby nullifying the old and beginning a new - to love God and to love one another. In effect, God has redeemed the entire human race and is calling us into relationship with Him so we can be free from the affects of sin and walk in liberty and peace. We believe that this is at the centre of His heart and His Kingdom. Century by century, the Kingdom of God is expanding in the world, restoring it to the garden of Eden.
